B.Sc. in Applied Chemical Engineering

The Curriculum

The Applied Chemical Engineering program is designed to prepare individuals for industrial roles that require both theoretical depth and practical application. Graduates will be proficient in addressing design and applied chemical engineering challenges, and will also be equipped for supervisory and sales roles. The department sustains robust industry communication through an eight-month cooperative work program and advocates for students to garner experience via industrial practice. Academic credit is available for relevant work experience.

In light of the broad scope of chemical engineering training and the ongoing industrial expansion in Saudi Arabia, graduates have the flexibility to pursue various career paths. Opportunities extend from government roles in different ministries to positions in the petroleum, petrochemical, food, metals, and chemical industries.

The departmental electives are categorized into five focus areas: (i) Reactor Design and Catalysis, (ii) Mathematical Analysis and Control, (iii) Petroleum and Petrochemical Industries, (iv) Environment, and (v) General Topics. These domains align with the current industrial growth in the Kingdom, enabling students to specialize in any of these fields by selecting relevant courses from the three chemical engineering electives outlined in the current Applied Chemical Engineering curriculum guide.

​Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

Within a few years following graduation, our graduates are expected to:

  • ​Secure successful careers in various sectors such as oil, gas, petrochemicals, desalination, energy, and other process industries.
  • Seamlessly integrate their academic foundation with practical chemical engineering applications, fostering innovation and technological advancement.
  • Continue their education by pursuing graduate degrees in chemical engineering or in related disciplines.
  • Assume leadership positions in industry, business, and government agencies.

Student Outcomes 

(1) An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying the principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.

(2) An ability to apply engineering design principles to generate solutions that satisfy specified needs, taking into account public health, safety, welfare, and considerations related to global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.

(3) An ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences.

(4) An ability to recognize and uphold ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering contexts, making informed judgments that consider the impact of engineering solutions on global, economic, environmental, and societal scales.

(5) An ability to function proficiently within a team, collaborating to provide leadership, establish an inclusive environment, define objectives, plan tasks, and achieve goals.

(6) An ability to design and conduct appropriate experiments, analyze and interpret resultant data, and employ engineering judgment to draw valid conclusions.

(7) An ability to continually acquire and apply new knowledge using appropriate learning strategies.
