CHE 351 – Cooperative Work
In this course, the student will spend a period of 28 weeks of industrial employment in the industry. Students are required to write a detailed formal report on their experience and give a technical presentation. Evaluation by the employer will be counted towards the grade given for this course.
Objective:
The course is designed to meet the demand of engineering graduates who are more trained in practice. The course provides students with intensive on-job training in which they can relate to the theoretical knowledge learned in the classrooms and laboratories. Upon graduation, the graduates can engage more rapidly in the design, construction, and operation of chemical processes.
Outcomes:
The outcomes of the COOP training program are to help students to:
Eligibility for COOP
Be currently enrolled in the university and not subjected to dismissal for any academic or disciplinary reasons.
Complete at least 85 credit hours (including the semester of COOP registration).
Maintain a major GPA of 2 (out of 4) or above.
Pass the technical writing course, ENGL214.
Complete all the pre-requisites identified by the department (check with the department COOP coordinator for such requirements).
Complete the COOP training before the last semester at the university.
CHE 399 – Summer Training
Professional training for eight (8) weeks during summer in a firm related to chemical engineering. Upon the completion of the summer training, students should submit a portfolio outlining their individual contributions.
