Biography

Dr. Wasif Farooq serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). He obtained his BS in Chemical Engineering from Punjab University in 2005 and subsequently gained four years of experience as a Production Engineer in a petrochemical facility. He later pursued graduate studies at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), completing his MS in 2010 and Ph.D. in 2015. His doctoral work focused on the production of biofuels from microalgae and biological wastewater treatment.

Dr. Wasif's current research interests span multiple areas, including the utilization of microalgae for food production and CO2 capture, the electrochemical oxidation (ECO) of biomass-derived molecules to yield biodegradable plastic precursors, and both biological and electrochemical methods for wastewater treatment.

Since joining the academic faculty in 2015, Dr. Wasif has taught a variety of courses in the chemical engineering curriculum. These courses encompass Principles of Chemical Engineering (CHE-200), Heat Transfer (CHE-300), Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics (CHE-303), Stage-wise Separation Processes (CHE-306), and Quantitative Process Risk Assessment (CHE-558).
