Biography

Omar Y. Abdelaziz serves as an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in 2013 and 2015, respectively, from Cairo University, Egypt. He completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2021 from Lund University, Sweden, focusing on thermochemical conversion technologies to transform industrial lignin into valuable chemicals. During his Ph.D., he also conducted research at the Technical University of Denmark's Centre for Catalysis and Sustainable Chemistry, specializing in catalytic oxidation of low-value feedstocks. Post-Ph.D., Dr. Abdelaziz remained at Lund University as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the same innovative process design group, where he continued his work on lignin and waste valorization. His research interests span sustainable process engineering, computer-aided design, energy systems, renewable chemicals and fuels, and the circular economy. He has a prolific publication record, having authored or co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, three conference proceedings, and one patent currently in the commercialization phase. Dr. Abdelaziz has presented his research at over 30 national and international conferences and workshops. His projects involve extensive collaborations across various sectors, both academic and industrial, and his network includes researchers from Europe, North America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Additionally, he is a co-founder of a startup specializing in renewable-based batteries.
