Summary:

Dr. Jie Liu is the Chair Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department. Dr. Liu earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Shandong University in 1987 and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard University in 1996. His current research interests include the fundamental understanding of plasmonic catalysis, the development of full solar spectrum photocatalysis, and the discovery of new approaches for energy storage and transportation. He believes that energy research aimed at enhancing the efficiency of renewable energy utilization will help society fight climate change. As a faculty member, Professor Liu has received the DuPont Young Professor Award, the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities, and the Bass Professorship from Duke University for excellence in teaching and research. He was elected as a Fellow in AAAS (2013), APS (2014), and RSC (2013). He also served as an associate editor for the RSC journal Nanoscale between 2012 and 2018 and has been an associate editor for Nano Research since 2019.
