Biography

Dr. Guy Ngongang is a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). He is also an affiliate of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Hydrogen & Energy Storage. Dr. Ngongang earned his Ph.D. in 2016 from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where he specialized in the development of organic solar cells.

During his Ph.D. research at KAUST under the guidance of Professor Aram Amassian, Dr. Ngongang focused on investigating novel materials and fabrication techniques for organic solar cells. He was particularly interested in understanding how the microstructure of these materials affects their optoelectronic properties and efficiency.

In 2017, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Princeton University, working with Professor Lynn Loo on the development of transparent solar cells for electrochromic window applications. Within Professor Loo's group, he investigated the use of transparent organic semiconductors and other materials to create solar cells that could be integrated into windows and other architectural features.

After joining KFUPM as a faculty member in 2021, Dr. Ngongang's research group now explores solid-state batteries, particularly for use in electric vehicles and other applications requiring high energy density and long cycle life. His research aims to elucidate battery degradation processes and to develop new materials and fabrication techniques to enhance the performance and safety of solid-state batteries, with a particular focus on lithium-metal batteries. Dr. Ngongang is an active member of the American Chemical Society and the Materials Research Society and has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals. He also frequently presents his research at international conferences and workshops.
