Biography

Dr. Faysal Al-Khulaifi is an Assistant Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder (2024), focusing on thermal catalysis to navigate the complex reaction pathways of renewable chemicals to produce valuable chemicals and fuels. He earned his M.S. from KFUPM, applying computer-aided simulation and design to the optimization of heat exchange networks, where physical and chemical properties are allowed to vary based on temperature and pressure. Prior to his current role, he was a Lecturer and a Graduate Assistant at KFUPM. His current research interests focus on the rational design of heterogeneous catalytic processes for sustainable energy conversion and valorization of biomass and renewables-derived chemicals and fuels. The goal is to gain an understanding of the underlying surface phenomena and reactivity through a variety of experimental methods, with design and optimization of processes aided by computational techniques such as AI and machine learning.
