Biography

M. Mozahar Hossain is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Dr. Hossain is a Professional Engineer (PEng), registered in Ontario, Canada. He serves as a Subject Editor for AJSE–Springer, a Topical Editor for Catalysts–MDPI, and an Editorial Member for IJCRE–DE Gruyter. He has also acted as a Guest Editor for Renewable Energy–Elsevier, The Chemical Record–Wiley, and Catalysts–MDPI.

Prof. Hossain has extensive teaching experience, covering courses such as Advanced Reaction Engineering, Advanced Reactor Analysis, Adsorption, Catalysis, Process Dynamics & Control, Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer, Thermodynamics, and Computational Methods. He has developed and taught two graduate-level courses—Industrial Fluidized Bed Reactor Design, and Industrial Chemical Reactions and Catalysis R&D Trends—as well as one undergraduate course on Hydrogen Production and Storage. He contributed to the development of course specifications and materials for a Professional MEng in Petrochemical Engineering, the OGSF program, and several concentration programs including hydrogen mobility and nuclear power generation. Prof. Hossain is highly experienced in educational quality control and program assessments, contributing to ABET accreditations and the NCAAA process. He received Excellence in Teaching Awards at KFUPM in both 2015 and 2018.

Prof. Hossain’s research interests encompass Catalysis and Reaction Engineering, focusing on hydrocarbon to olefins conversion, blue hydrogen production, heavy oil upgrading, CO2 capture/utilization, and biomass gasification. He has served as the principal investigator on numerous industrial research projects for companies like Saudi Aramco, UOP, Sipchem, and SABIC. He has supervised or co-supervised 10 Ph.D. and 25 MSc students, along with two postdocs, and has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals, amassing 5100 citations with an h-index of 31 according to Scopus. He is the lead inventor on 18 issued U.S. patents and has 15 pending U.S. patents. Prof. Hossain has received Excellence in Research Awards for 2013-2014 and 2019-2020. In 2020, he was listed among the world's top 2% of scientists in the field of chemical engineering by Stanford University, USA. In 2021-2022, he received KFUPM awards for highly cited publication and for the Best Research Project. He has also delivered invited lectures at various institutions, including KACST–Riyadh, CSChE–Canada, UoB–Bahrain, and JCCP–Japan.
